5 Ways to Support Local Businesses Everyday

In a world where it’s becoming more difficult to stand out and thrive amongst online giants and conglomerates, it's important to remember the charm and character that local businesses bring to our diverse communities. Local businesses create a diverse tapestry of culture that just can't be replicated anywhere else.

Through actively supporting local businesses, together, we collectively nurture the very essence of our neighborhoods! It’s up to us to uplift, support, and ensure these businesses continue to succeed in trying times.

If you’ve been searching for ways to support local businesses everyday, we’ve put together a short list of five key ways you can make a difference right in your own backyard.

1. Explore the unexplored (and unexpected)

Break free from your routine and allow yourself to wander and discover hidden gems in your neighborhood. Take a leisurely stroll or hop on your bike, allowing your curiosity to guide you to local stores, cafes, and boutiques you maybe haven't explored before. You may just stumble upon the unexpected and find your new favorite spot! Follow places you find and love on social media, engage with their content, leave them a positive review… There is a lot you can do to support them without necessarily making a purchase!

    2. Spread the word

Along those lines as we mentioned above, become an enthusiastic ambassador for your local businesses. Actively share your experiences on social media platforms, leaving glowing reviews and tagging the establishments you visit. To take it up a notch, if you take any great photos, share them with the business!

By sharing the love, you introduce these businesses to a wider audience, encouraging others to visit and discover their unique offerings. Your kind words and recommendations can make a world of difference to a struggling local business and support them even more than you may realize.

      3. Shop locally (and mindfully)

When making purchases, whether it be birthday presents, graduation gifts, or just a purchase to treat yourself, prioritize shopping at local businesses over larger chain stores and online retailers. Seek out locally sourced products and support the creative minds and artisans right in your community.

Whether it's fresh produce from your local neighborhood farmers market or handmade crafts from an artisan nearby, each and every purchase contributes to the success of local businesses. When you choose to shop mindfully, you ensure that your money stays within the community, continuously fostering growth and prosperity.

        4. Volunteer your skills

Do you have a specific talent or skill that could benefit local businesses, possibly? Offer your expertise as a volunteer or mentor. For example, if you're a graphic designer, consider designing promotional materials for a struggling local store. Help them for the long-term by ensuring they have the tools for success! If you're a social media guru, lend your knowledge to help boost their online presence. Your contribution of time and skills can have a lasting impact on the success of a local business.

Our friends at Frame Marketing have been major in helping share their skills for our Lab & Learn series and we’re so grateful that they are willing to share their knowledge with local business owners to help them thrive and grow online!

          5. Engage in local community events

Supporting local businesses goes well beyond the cash register. Attend community events, such as farmers markets, street fairs, and art festivals. Take time to participate in workshops, demonstrations, local town hall meetings etc. and interact with the entrepreneurs behind the businesses. You’ll engage on a deeper level and build relationships, forge connections, and find a stronger sense of belonging within your community. Your presence at these events not only fosters community spirit, but it also directly supports local businesses and their growth!

Supporting local businesses is not just an occasional act of charity; it's a way of life that enriches our communities and helps them not just survive, but truly thrive. Take intentional time to embrace the charm of your neighborhood and celebrate its diversity.
